I moved to Nashville in 1982, when I was just one year old. As I’ve watched my hometown transform over the years, very few places still remind me of my childhood. So when my mom asked if I wanted to join her for a walk down memory lane, aka Belmont Boulevard in the Belmont-Hillsboro neighborhood, I jumped at the chance to celebrate old and new Nashville colliding in the best possible way.
Belmont Blvd. offers free parking, a modern-day miracle here in Nashville. I suggest starting your stroll near Martin’s BBQ, which has been serving up smoked meats since 2014. If you stop in, don’t miss out on the pulled pork nachos — they’re a local favorite for a reason!
As you make your way up Belmont Blvd., but sure to stop in Bloom Flowers. While they offer beautifully curated bouquets for delivery, I recommend browsing their in-store flower and plant selection. They also carry a variety of gifts for all occasions.

Belmont University’s fancy new venue, The Fisher Center, is a stunning addition to Nashville’s performing arts scene. I’ve already got my tickets for the debut of “DOLLY,” Dolly Parton’s new musical premiering this July, and I’m counting down the days. In the meantime, The Fisher Center boasts a stacked calendar of performances and events all year long.
Talk about nostalgia — Bongo Java is one of the only local businesses on Belmont Blvd. that’s still in the same spot as it was when it opened in 1993. Their claim to fame was the Nun Bun in 1996 — look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Not only is the coffee superb, but their breakfast burrito might be the best in Nashville.
Everyone knows my favorite bagel in Nashville is from Mr. Aaron’s Goods, but Proper Bagel definitely gives them a run for their money. I love popping in for an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese.
For nearly 45 years, International Market has been serving Nashvillians, and I'm so grateful it’s still around today. Originally opened in 1975 across the street from its current location, this beloved Nashville staple was named a James Beard Foundation semifinalist last year. It’s one of my favorite Thai restaurants in town — but since it’s everyone else’s favorite too, be sure to make a reservation!
