Your Guide To Camping in Nashville

🏕️ Tips for Camping in Nashville

The nights are cool, and the mosquitoes have yet to reach lethal proportions, so why not seize this magical moment in time and go camping! On today’s podcast, former Patagonia Nashville store manager Matt Heinly talks about the best spots to check out, where to grab gear without breaking the bank, and how to not get eaten by a bear. 🏗️ East Bank Scrapyard Rezoning Approved

At Tuesday’s Metro Council meeting, councilmembers approved rezoning the East Bank scrapyard and updating the Metro Downtown Code for the development. The legislation came with 17 amendments, including one to rename the site — which developers were calling the East Bend — to Wasioto Bend, honoring the Shawnee name for the Cumberland River. Other amendments put caps on the number of hotels and parking lots that can be built on the property. [NewsChannel 5]

  • Councilmembers also passed several resolutions to fund community safety efforts, including appropriating money to the nonprofit Gideon’s Army for youth violence reduction. [Nashville Banner]

🚲 Nashville’s Greenway Problem

While local leaders and advocates have attempted to connect Nashville’s greenway system to make it more functional for decades, unresolved obstacles persist. The nonprofit Greenways for Nashville is attempting to clear some of these blocks to connecting greenways, like a planned 4-mile link between Centennial Park and the Nashville Farmers’ Market, but progress too frequently stalls. 💊 Lawmakers Pass Fair Rx Act

State lawmakers overwhelmingly passed a bill prohibiting a pharmacy from owning a pharmacy benefit manager, the middleman that negotiates drug prices between pharmacies and insurance companies. The bill heads to Gov. Bill Lee’s desk. CVS is the only company in the state that owns a pharmacy and PBM, and has threatened to sue over the legislation. [Tennessee Lookout]

Many farms in the Nashville area allow visitors to pick their own produce. Right now, strawberries are in season, with more berries and fruits on the way. Before you head out to a farm, check its social media page for hours and availability. Bring cash, as some farms don’t accept cards, and a bag for produce. Here are some of our favorite you-pick farms!

The Best Farmers Markets in Nashville

Green Door Gourmet

Check this large Bellevue farm’s website and social media pages for pop-up, you-pick strawberry picking. Otherwise, you can find fresh strawberries at its market. The market contains heaps of excellent produce and other farm goodies. It’s also a great place to snag lunch.

S. E. Daugherty & Sons Farm

Also located in Bellevue, this farm currently offers you-pick flowers and strawberries. The farm’s CSA season begins soon, too, if you want to support them beyond a carton of strawberries.

Bloomsbury Farm

This woman-owned Smyrna farm is in week two of strawberry picking. Flowers are available for picking, too. I recommend visiting on Farm Fridays, where you can find local vendors in addition to fresh produce and flowers.

Kelley's Berry Farm

Strawberry picking is in full swing at this Castalian Springs farm, located just outside Lebanon. This farm also grows blackberries, blueberries, peaches, and raspberries, which will be available later in the year.

Delvin Farms

Delvin Farms says this year’s strawberry crop is its best! Located in College Grove, right outside Arrington, this farm announces picking dates on social media. Starting in May, the farm hosts the Arrington farmers market every Wednesday.
