While ICE says Alvarez was a member of a Venezuelan gang, friends refute that statement and say he was hustling to send money home to his parents and children. Alvarez appears to have no criminal history in Nashville. This follows a recent report that outside agencies are using the airport’s Flock cameras on behalf of ICE. | | 🚨 Board Hopes To Prevent Excessive Use of Force | From 2024 to 2025, the Metro Nashville Police Department had over 800 use-of-force incidents, 57% of which involved Black people, though the demographic only makes up 25% of the city’s population. Nashville’s Community Review Board is recommending eight new rules to help reduce MNPD’s use of force, including de-escalation training and using heightened care for vulnerable populations. The board plans to submit the recommendations to MNPD soon. [WKRN] | | | 🏗️ Lawmaker Says No Thanks To Trying Music City Loop First | A recent report outlined the potential environmental dangers of building the Music City Loop, the series of underground tunnels being constructed by The Boring Company. When asked whether he felt the tunnel’s concrete barriers would be enough to prevent flooding from the Cumberland River, former state Sen. Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro — a member of Tennessee’s Subterranean Transportation Infrastructure Coordinator Authority — said, “They say that they will, but I don’t think I want to be one of the first ones riding through it.” [Tennessee Lookout] | - The state formed the Subterranean Transportation Infrastructure Coordinator Authority earlier this year to oversee Boring’s tunnel building and prevent Nashville authorities from interfering.
