March is here, which means spring arrives at the end of the month, and the weather is finally warming up. It’s time to head outside to enjoy Nashville blooming (stockpile tissues if you’re an allergy sufferer), and to make spring break plans. Here are some tips and activity ideas for enjoying March in Nashville.
🌷 See Some Flowers
I always know spring is just around the corner when I see the wild daffodils on trails at the Warner Parks. You can find even more wildflowers blooming at Bells Bend Park. If you want to see a real flower extravaganza, head to Cheekwood for its annual Cheekwood in Bloom event, which runs from March 8 to April 13. This year, Cheekwood gardeners have planted over 250,000 blooms, and Robert Indiana’s iconic “LOVE” sculpture will be there. Enjoy the beer garden and food trucks on the weekends.
📖 Read Across America Week
From March 3-7, the nation celebrates Read Across America Week. Here are some ways you can join in.
- Check out one of the story times at your local Nashville Public Library branch.
- Visit one of our bookstores, like Fairytale Bookstore, Parnassus Books, or Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, which host weekly story times.
- If you have a middle schooler, The Loveless Cafe is partnering with Metro Nashville Public Schools to host a reading competition. The middle school class with the highest level of challenge completion over the entire month will win a biscuit party.
- You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy Read Across America Week. The Bookshop has a Yoga Book Club on March 8.
- Silent Book Club Nashville is also hosting an event on March 8 at the Main Library Branch.

🧒 Don’t Forget Spring Break
Spring break for MNPS and local colleges and universities is from March 10-14. Here are some fun day trip ideas if you want a brief getaway without braving the beach crowds:
- Chattanooga is a family favorite. Visit the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum, and Rock City.
- My family also loves going to the Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Here’s my guide!
- Enjoy the warmer weather by visiting Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
🍀 Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day
Throughout March, the Music City Irish Fest is celebrating our 200-plus years of Irish heritage — dating back to when Irish pioneers founded the city — with events at Harken Hall, City Winery, and TPAC, to name a few.
On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, raise a pint of green beer at McNamara’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, Village Pub & Beer Garden, and The Pub Nashville.
