From Dec. 2-8, the Nashville Scene hosts Taco Week, where 40+ local restaurants prepare their best tacos and offer them to patrons for $5. After chatting with Chris Chamberlain from the Nashville Scene about the most exciting tacos, I was eager to head out and satisfy all my spicy cravings. I didn’t even need to pack my purse hot sauce (shoutout to Beyoncé for normalizing this), since so many places offered their own! Here are me and my mom’s favorites from Taco Week 2024.
The Absolute Best Taco: Limo Peruvian Eatery
Chris predicted great things from Limo Peruvian Eatery’s Taco Lomo, and they didn’t disappoint. It featured wok-style steak in a soy-based marinade, topped with grilled onions and tomato on a flour tortilla with an incredible sauce I wish I could’ve bottled up and taken home. Shout out to Alex, my hospitable server!

Hot chicken tacos with house made chili crips and drizzled honey at Harth in Green Hills. (Linda Anderson / Marie’s Mom)
The Best Hot Chicken Taco: Härth
Since I’m just one person, I recruited my mom to help me cover more ground. She visited Härth in Green Hills, likely rocking her best Coastal Grandma look, blending in perfectly with their “quiet luxury” decor. Her verdict? The hot fried chicken taco was impressive, especially for just $5!
The Best Fish Tacos: Brown’s Diner
Mom also hit up Brown’s Diner, reporting that their fish tacos tasted like catfish (how profound), and she was excited to learn from her server that for the next month, they’ll be testing out new hamburger recipes. I reminded her she was supposed to report on the tacos, not the burgers, but there you have it, folks.

Chorizo, egg, sweet potato, and chili pequin on a flour tortilla from Ladybird Taco East. (Marie Cecile Anderson / City Cast Nashville)
Best Breakfast Taco: Ladybird Taco
The Ladybird Taco entry was packed with sweet potatoes, scrambled eggs, and chorizo in a warm flour tortilla, and of course I doused it in patron salsa, one of my faves, which I’m so glad they offer.

Best Unique Taco: International Tea and Co.
Turns out the International Tea and Coffee Company doesn’t do just tea and coffee well, they also make a killer Korean BBQ taco. My only note is that I should’ve asked for hot sauce with this one, but the meat was so juicy I almost didn’t need it. New to me after Wild Cow closed last year, this spot truly earned my time and money.

Located on Nolensville Pike, Taqueria Mexico Tennessee serves up the best tacos in Nashville. (Marie Cecile Anderson / City Cast Nashville)
Best Consistently Good Taco: Taqueria Mexico Tennessee
If it were up to me, I’d award Taqueria Mexico Tennessee a Michelin Star, because their $4 shrimp tacos are, and always will be, my favorite in Nashville. They drizzle each taco upon request with a green and red hot sauce. YUM! They’re not participating in the Nashville Scene’s Taco Week, and they don’t need to. Their quality speaks for itself.
