In a world that often feels like a hamster wheel spinning endlessly with the noise of social media and political discourse, we all need a quiet space where we can step off, breathe deeply, and simply be.
Tucked away in South Nashville’s Oak Hill neighborhood, Radnor Lake State Park offers the perfect balance of isolation and accessibility. Just far enough from the city to immerse yourself in nature, yet close enough for a quick trip, it’s the ideal spot for a hike, bird watching, or a peaceful afternoon by the water. Here’s how to make the most of your visit.
📍Explore the Trails
Radnor Lake is home to over six miles of trails, ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. The Lake Trail is a favorite for its flat terrain and picturesque views of the water, making it perfect for families or those seeking a relaxing walk. If you’re looking for a bit more adventure, the South Cove Trail offers a moderate climb with rewarding views of the forest canopy. Meanwhile, the Ganier Ridge Trail provides a more challenging hike, with steeper inclines and breathtaking views.
But what about the pups? Radnor Lake is a state natural area, so pets are only allowed on designated trails like the Otter Creek Road Trail.

🦅 Wildlife and Biodiversity
Radnor is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, owls, turtles, and even the occasional bald eagle. Bring a pair of binoculars and head to one of the observation areas for birdwatching. The Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center is a must-visit, offering a closer look at native raptors and an opportunity to learn about local conservation efforts.
📷 Scenic Highlights
Beyond the trails, Radnor Lake boasts stunning scenic spots perfect for photography, reflection, or just soaking in the view. I love coming here to read or listen to my latest favorite album.
